NUEVOS MURCIÉLAGOS FÓSILES DE LA FAUNA DE LA VENTA, COLOMBIA, MIOCENO MEDIO

Abstract

En los yacimientos de rocas sedimentarias del Mioceno medio de la Formación Villavieja en el valle del río Magdalena, Huila, Colombia, se hallaron fósiles de murciélagos que amplían el conocimiento de la Paleofauna de La Venta, aproximadamente hace 12-13 millones de años. Los fósiles incluyen seis familias y nueve especies, algunas previamente registradas. Los molares superiores de Notonycteris magdalenensis confirman su afinidad con Vampyrum y Chrotopterus. Se propone una nueva especie de Notonycteris basada en dos molares inferiores y tamaño reducido. También se identificó un nuevo género y especie de murciélago nectarívoro de Phyllostomidae (Glossophaginae o Lonchophyllinae), el único registro terciario de este grupo. Además, se registraron un murciélago no identificado de la familia Molossidae y posiblemente un representante de Vespertilionidae, que sería el primer registro de la familia. La paleofauna de La Venta comprende un total de 14 especies de murciélagos hasta la fecha.

In the sedimentary rock deposits of the middle Miocene of the Villavieja Formation in the Magdalena River valley, Huila, Colombia, bat fossils were found that expand the knowledge of the Paleofauna of La Venta, approximately 12-13 million years ago. The fossils include six families and nine species, some previously recorded. The upper molars of Notonycteris magdalenensis confirm its affinity with Vampyrum and Chrotopterus. A new species of Notonycteris is proposed based on two lower molars and reduced size. A new genus and species of nectar-eating bat from Phyllostomidae (Glossophaginae or Lonchophyllinae) was also identified, the only tertiary record of this group. In addition, an unidentified bat from the family Molossidae and possibly a representative of Vespertilionidae were recorded, which would be the first record of the family. The paleofauna of La Venta comprises a total of 14 species of bats to date.
