COMPOSICIÓN MINERALÓGICA Y QUÍMICA DE LAS ARCILLAS EMPLEADAS PARA CERÁMICA ROJA EN LAS ZONAS DE MEDELLÍN, ITAGÜÍ Y AMAGÁ

Abstract

Mediante un estudio sistemático se caracterizaron los materiales arcillosos provenientes de la formación Amagá (Ts) y del Stock de Alta vista (Itagüí y Medellín) en el Departamento de Antioquia (Colombia). Ello permitió identificar las zonas con mejores calidades para el suministro de materias primas para la industria de cerámica roja en su área de influencia. Para cada zona se describen las características geológicas, y se determina la composición química y mineralógica; además, se desarrollaron pruebas específicas para establecer la aptitud cerámica de estos recursos naturales. Las muestras presentan contenidos de álcalis superiores al 0,2% lo cual podría bajar la calidad de los productos terminados

Through a systematic study, the clay materials from the Amagá formation (Ts) and the Alta Vista Stock (Itagüí and Medellín) in the Department of Antioquia (Colombia) were characterized. This made it possible to identify the areas with the best qualities for the supply of raw materials for the red ceramic industry in its area of ​​influence. For each area, the geological characteristics are described, and the chemical and mineralogical composition is determined; In addition, specific tests were developed to establish the ceramic aptitude of these natural resources. The samples have alkali contents greater than 0.2%, which could lower the quality of the finished products.
